The 48 fps theater list continues to grow: a representative from Rave Cinemas has confirmed to me that the following Rave locations are scheduled to show The Hobbit in 48 fps:
Rave Franklin Park 16 – Toledo, OH
Rave Fallen Timbers 14 – Maumee, OH
Rave Ann Arbor 20 – Ypsilanti, MI
Rave Buckland Hills 18 – Manchester, CT
Rave Connecticut Post 14 – Milford, CT
Rave Fairfax Corner 14 – Fairfax, VA
Rave Davenport 18 – Davenport, IA
Rave Southpoint 17 – Durham, NC

Rave Baldwin Hills 15 – Baldwin Hills, CA
Arclight Cinemas has confirmed that the following locations will have The Hobbit in 48 fps, and also that every Arclight will be HFR 3D capable within the next few months, even though only the two listed below will be showing The Hobbit in the HFR format:
Sherman Oaks, California: Arclight cinema
Pasadena, California: Arclight cinema
The following locations from other theater operators have also been confirmed today:
Huntsville, Alabama: Monaco Pictures
Memphis, Tennessee: Malco Paradiso (From TheaterNation: ”I received an email stating that the Malco Paradiso in Memphis, TN will have at least one auditorium showing The Hobbit in 48fps. I am in contact with one of Malco’s VPs and trying to convince them to do the upgrade at some other locations. I will keep you posted.”)
Brookville, Wisconsin: Marcus Majestic
Madison, Wisconsin: Marcus Point
Mequon, Wisconsin: Marcus North Shore
Münster, Germany: Cineplex Münster
Liverpool, United Kingdom: ODEON Cinema
I’ve also heard from two separate sources that there will be approximately 450-500 auditoriums playing the Hobbit in 48 fps in North America when the film opens. That’s great news, and should alleviate some of the worries/rumors that WB had tweaked its release plan by limiting the 48 fps version to only the very top markets to “protect the format.”
In other news, a new international TV spot for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has been released with some new shots. Check it out below:
Also check out this funny Hobbit / Air New Zealand safety video made with the help of Weta Workshop and with a cameo from Peter Jackson as well as Gollum himself:
Air New Zealand is also running a contest giving away 6 double passes to The Hobbit’s world premiere on November 28. You can enter that contest on this page.
We’re getting very close now! Remember to snag your advance tickets when they go on sale at 12 pm EST on November 7…those 48 fps midnight and opening night screenings are going to sell out fast.
